The Nepali Parliament approved the amendments to the country’s new Constitution on Saturday night to address the agitating Madhesis’ demands for proportionate representation and allocation of seats in parliament on the basis of population. As many as 461 lawmakers voted in favour of the proposals in the first constitutional amendment Bill. The remaining seven in the 468 MPs who participated voted against them.

However, Madhesi leaders said the Bill was incomplete and didn’t address their main demand to revise the federal state borders laid out in the charter that they fear will limit their representation in Parliament.

Madhesh-based parties, under the banner of the Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha (SLMM) or the Madhesi Morcha, are agitating in the southern Terai plains adjoining India since the new Constitution came into force on September 20 last year. At least 60 people were killed in the last five months as the Madhesi Morcha launched the agitation. Nepal faces a severe short supply of essential commodities, fuel and medicines due to blockade of major Nepal-India entry points.

Tamta and many other women like her share in the joy of a bountiful harvest in Uttarakhand, where women shoulder the bulk of the responsibility for cultivation. Women perform all the farming tasks here, save for sowing and ploughing.

“From chopping wood for firewood to fodder collection for cattle to irrigation, laying of manure or reaping or any form of tillage, everything is done by us,” she says. “Everything is done by hand, there are no machines. In Uttarakhand, the woman is the machine,” she says.

Farming in the hill state has always been the preserve of women. In fact, it was women who were at the forefront of the famous Chipko (hug the trees) movement in the 1970s to protest against extensive deforestation that threatened to wreck the ecological balance of the region.

Politician Rabindra Adhikari, a former Sajha Sawal panellist, admits it’s sometimes not an easy experience for panellists. “It can be difficult. We are speaking while looking at their faces, we can see the pain.” He says a question asked by an audience member is “a thousand times more powerful than when asked by a journalist”.
Since 2007, the programme has featured all of Nepal’s top political leaders, including every prime minister since the establishment of democracy in the country. Shows are recorded throughout the country to reflect ethnic, cultural and caste differences.

Shrestha and Acharya are accompanied by other popular artists like Kiran KC, Basundhara Bhushal, Shivahari Poudel, Mohit Acharya and Yaman Shrestha. Rabi Lamichhane is hosting the performances.

Maha Jodi’s US tour comes in the heels of their recent performances in Nepal, England and Australia. Their satirical programmes, based on the socio-political crises Nepal is facing, are a huge attraction among Nepalis residing abroad.

After successful shows in the south and the southwest the troupe is now heading to the East Coast.Maha Jodi has already performed in Los Angeles, Denver, Salt Lake City and Austin, and now, they will be performing in Oklohama, Minnesota and New York, among others. According to the organisers (there are different organisers for different cities), the money raised from the shows will be used to help build temples and promote Nepali culture in the US.In a video released by the jodi, they have stated that they’re on a tour with “the message of national unity” on their minds.

Association Chairman Khadga Bahadur Shrestha in a press conference spoke of the pain inflicted on both migrant workers and representatives due to the increasing trend of institutional scam while calling on the law enforcement bodies to be more sensitive towards the issue. Shrestha said the association could only fulfill a role of a liaison agent to establish contact between the migrant workers and the manpower companies. He further insisted the manpower companies must be accountable for providing the stipulated money and work, along with arranging for labour permit and travel route for the destination country. -

Mumbai police has filed a case against model Kashish Khan and Bhojpuri actor Trisha Khandelwal based on a complaint by Maharashtra Mahila Congress chief Sheetal Mhatre that the two insulted the national anthem during the screening of a film in the city. After Jung Bahadur’s visit to Europe, he took steps to increase his hold over the country. He reduced the King of Nepal to a prisoner in his own palace, surrounded by agents of the Prime Minister being restricted and supervised at all times. No one outside the King’s immediate family could see the King without permission from the Prime Minister. All communications in the name of the king were censored, and he was allowed to read only approved literature. In 1856 the king issued a royal decree (sanad) that formalized the dominance of the Kunwar family. There were three main provisions in this crucial document. First, the prime minister had complete authority over all internal administration, including civil, military, and judicial affairs, and all foreign relations, including the powers to make war and peace. Second, Jung Bahadur was made great king (maharajah) of Kaski and Lamjung districts, in effect serving as their independent ruler. The Shah king retained the title of Maharajadhiraja (Supreme King) and the right to use the honorific term Shri five times with his name. The prime minister could use shri three times with his name. In this way, Jung Bahadur stopped short of taking the throne outright but elevated his family to a level second only to the royal house, which remained as a symbol of the nation. Finally, provisions were established for hereditary succession to the post of prime minister. Brothers and then sons would inherit the position in order of seniority. These provisions meant that the dictatorship of the Kunwar family, a virtual monarchy within the monarchy, would be passed down in the family for generations, with no legal mechanism for changing the government. Later, Jung Bahadur established official Rolls of Succession that ranked all his descendants in relation to their hereditary rights to the office of prime minister.Jung Bahadur sealed the arrangement with the Shah Dynasty by arranging marriages between his heirs and the royal house. In 1854, his eldest son Jagat Jung (aged eight) married the eldest daughter (aged six) of king Surendra. In 1855 his second son married the second daughter of the king. The ultimate test was passed in 1857, when heir apparent Trailokya Bir Bikram Shah Deva married three daughters of Jung Bahadur.[7] A son of this union, Prithvi Bir Bikram Shah, ascended to the throne in 1881.

Besides contests Patrick is known for his role in several dirt jump shows and bike movies like “Action Heroes”.It´s maybe not my “own“ spot, it´s more the spot for all the locals here in my hometown. Without all these guys there would be maybe only a few jumps. But with their help it has grown over the last year and today we can say we have one of the biggest and best dirt jump spots in Germany. The Park has different lines for all riding levels. One for beginners with tables, waves and berms. A smaller line with a 6 meter step-up trick jump at the end and on big line with a 8 m boner log, followed by a berm, two jumps 8 meters and 6 meters and a quarter at the end.Yeah, that’s sadly true. A nine years old kid was playing with fire and it got out of control. The police can´t do anything because he is still a child and so we have to wait for answers from an insurance company. That´s right. Last week I signed the contract and I am so damn stoked about that. Definitely, it was always a dream of mine. Maybe every rider dreams about that. Its simply amazing to have such a brand behind me now and I´m looking forward to working with them the upcoming season and hopefully as long as I can.Watch the full video for the Update. -

Nepali Folk Musical Instruments and Cultural Group will be held until November 29 at the Rastriya Nachghar in Jamal in the Capital.Inaugurating the festival, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Ananda Prasad Pokharel stressed the need on part of the local communities to take the initiative for preservation of the folk cultures rather than waiting for the state to do so.

The Museum of Nepalese Folk Musical Instruments Chairman Ram Prasad Kandel said during the festival the experiences on works pertaining to research and conservation of national traditional folk culture would be exchanged. International experts on folk music including Nepal will also present their documents.

A total of 35 selected documentaries from 18 different countries will be screened in the three-day festival which will be held from 10 am to 5 pm on a daily basis. Six films will be awarded in the outstanding and best categories which the International Decisive Committee will choose.

The road expansion drive is facing many hurdles because of the contractors responsible for widening and blacktopping of roads not working as per contract citing various reasons. One of these is that the locals are protesting this drive. It is even alleged that some crafty politicians are encouraging such drives by inciting the locals. It is indeed not possible to reimburse all those whose houses and walls had to be brought down and also lost their land to be provided with compensation. However, it is being mooted to make arrangement to provide such for those who have been affected by the criteria set by the government after the year 2031 B.S. But all those who have encroached on public land to build houses should have their buildings dismantled so that the contractors can get on with their work which is not the case now. Instigating illegal owners of the houses to hold protests should, therefore, not be tolerated.

So, out of the government’s plans to extend 150 kilometers of the roads in the capital valley only 57 kilometers have been completed so far, which is well below the target set initially. Many of these roads such as the one between Tinkune to Kalanki has seen all construction halted because the contractors have asked for more money. This is indeed not permissible. No doubt, many irregularities are taking place in the distribution of the money to the contractors and also owners of houses built on encroached land. Meanwhile, if the government was to pay all the amount that has to be reimbursed it would not have sufficient amount for it in the budget. This calls for some thinking. Therefore, the government and the contractors as well as those whose houses were dismantled in the road expansion construction drive should exercise restraint and allow them to build the roads. Many road sections dug up for the expansion purposes in the Kathmandu Valley are still in a state of disrepair, with various unpleasant consequences. High priority should therefore be given to reconstructing them.

The U.S. Army Soldiers in Afghanistan are now firing an 84mm, reusable, recoilless shoulder-fired conventional munition able to destroy enemy targets hidden behind rocks, trees and buildings , service officials said.

The weapon, called the Multi-Role Anti-Armor, Anti-Personnel Weapons System, known as the Carl-Gustaf, was ordered by the Army in response to an Operational Needs Statement from Afghanistan seeking to procure a direct fire, man-portable, anti-personnel and light structure weapon able, among other things, to respond to insurgent rocket-propelled grenade, or RPG, fire, said Bhuvanesh Thoguluva, chief of Vehicle Protection, Rockets & Shoulder Fired Weapons Branch, Munition Systems & Technical Directorate, Armament Research Development and Engineering Center, Picatinny Arsenal, N.J.

The Carl-Gustaf, which is manufactured by Saab, includes an airburst capability with its High Explosive, or HE, round, Thoguluva said.

“The HE round does have an airburst capability. It is the one that is utilized most often because of its effective range. It uses a mechanical time fuse which is set prior to loading the weapon system,” he said.

Airburst rounds can be pre-programmed to explode in the air at a precise location, thereby maximizing the weapon’s effect against enemy targets hiding, for example, behind a rock, tree or building.

Several Carl Gustaf’s are already in Afghanistan as part of a limited operational assessment, which may indeed result in more deliveries. The Army purchased the weapon by joining with U.S. Special Operations Command in a combined purchase from Saab.

We thought the mountain bike festival was a good place to kick it off, especially given when we were planning on leaving,” she said. “We’re working on an event where people can ride the bikes that we are going to be riding and we’ll do a meet and greet.” As for choosing Nepal as the destination, it had already been on Cornelius’ radar as a biking destination before the earthquake. “The trails were, in general, known for hiking, but mountain biking has started to grow …. We’re actually hoping to meet up with one of the up-and-coming female mountain bikers there,” she said.Five women will arrive at Kathmandu and ride through Langtang Valley before arriving at the village of Kyanjin Gomba to aid local relief workers. -

Buakaw VS Yi Long – Fight of the Century

Thailand at the night of June 6th 2015, you will see Thai people crowd in front of television and watched remarkable fight between Muay Thai and Kung Fu; Buakaw VS Yi Long.

Buakaw Banchamek, a 32-year old muay thai fighter and the two time K-1 World MAX champion , entered this fight with a professional kickboxing record of 257-41-12 (65 knockouts). Today Buakaw had fought with younger opponent, a 28-year old Shaolin kung-fu fighter Yi Long, who has an official record of 47-5-1.

Actually this fight between Buakaw and Yi Long was announced by Max Muay Thai for December 31, 2013, and it should start in 2014. Unfortunately, the match was cancelled because Buakaw was under contract to Thai Fight. Max Muay Thai was threatened, if Buakaw fights on their card.

Look at the previous fight, Buakaw suffered his last defeat in 2014 when he faced Enriko Kehl in the final of the K-1 World MAX (but it was a controversial ending, Buakaw vs Kehl 2); after this bout he came back to win beating Steve Moxon , Dmytro Konstantynov (=Buakaw vs Konstantynov) and Yan Bin (or Yuan Bing, Buakaw vs Bin).

Dubai Police broke a Guinness World Record in December, for collecting the largest number of signatures that expressed loyalty to UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.Emiratis and expats stepped up to pledge their allegiance with 13,288 signatures gathered by Dubai Police, breaking the world record that was previously held by China with 12,884 signatures.The signatures were collected across four different pieces of cloth, representing the four colours of the UAE flag.These pieces of cloth were in turn stitched together to create a 10-metre long and 5.6-metre wide flag.At the beginning of 2015, the Guinness World Record winning LED illumination on the Burj Khalifa façade saw the UAE national flag colours, along with flags of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, and Kuwait wow residents and visitors.The dazzling effects, that showcased fascinating Arabic motifs and ‘mashrabiya’ patterns, was first unveiled during the New Year’s Eve Gala.Winning the Guinness record for ‘World’s Largest LED-Illuminated Façade’, one can only expect Emaar Properties to match that dazzling display this year. -

Even the Prime Minister (K P Sharma Oli) called, wishing us luck for tomorrow’s match,” says Aarif Sheikh, the team’s soft-spoken vice-captain. On Saturday, Nepal play Ireland, a team they have dominated lately. And if they pull off another victory, they will all but advance to the quarterfinals, which would be their best performance since they lifted the Plate (second tier) trophy in 2006.
That, for Nepal, would complete a story of triumph after twin disasters — one natural, the other man-made. Among the worst-hit by the earthquake last April was Nepal’s main cricketing facility, Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground. “The new indoor nets facility was destroyed,” says Sheikh, adding that the senior team had to go to Dharamsala in June to prepare for the World T20 qualifiers. Soon, the country faced another setback — an economic blockade that stopped the flow of essential goods, including fuel, from India following protests over Nepal’s new constitution by the Madhesis. “Diesel was selling at 450-500 rupees a litre (roughly Rs 300). Even at that price, it was hard to procure,” says a source in the Nepalese cricket board, who did not wish to be named. The cascading effect on life took a toll on cricket as well. “We had a bowling machine, but couldn’t use it since it needed diesel to run,” he says. And, it became hard to procure basic equipment, even cricket balls, he adds. “A single practice session required a lot of cricket balls, and we were running out. Those available in the markets came at a very high price. So whenever any Nepal cricket official would visit Delhi, he would bring back a box full of balls. That’s how we managed,” says the source.

The earthquake, which struck at 3:25 p.m. local time on Saturday, was centered about 91 kilometers (57 miles) north of Yelizovo, a town in Kamchatka Krai. It struck about 161 kilometers (100 miles) deep, making it a relatively deep earthquake.Shaking was felt throughout large parts of the peninsula, but there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties, the region’s Emergencies Ministry said. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) estimated that some 278,000 people may have felt the earthquake, with the strongest shaking felt in Yelizovo.Moderate shaking was also felt in one of the region’s largest cities, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy, which is about 110 kilometers (68 miles) south of Saturday’s epicenter. The shaking prompted people in some buildings, including shopping malls, to evacuate out onto the street.Other details were not immediately available, but no tsunami warnings have been issued.A powerful earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.2 has struck the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia’s Far East, seismologists say. There have been no immediate reports of damage or casualties. -
