Superstar Rajesh Hamal was in Paris when the April 25 quake hit. On hearing about it, Hamal cancelled his prior commitments and instead started raising funds for victims back home with the help of NRNs living in France, the Netherlands and Finland. He also made various media appearances in these countries. In the Netherlands, he was featured by a citizen-run organisation, Giro 555; and with help from the Dutch-Nepali community, he collected 9.6 million Euros in a single day. Hamal also visited Pokhara to promote tourism. Rajesh Hamal, arguably the biggest superstar in the Nepali film industry, was in Paris when the April 25 quake hit. Hamal was in Europe to attend various programmes that had been scheduled nearly a year ago. On hearing about the quake, Hamal cancelled his prior commitments and instead started raising funds for Nepalis back home, from NRNs living in France, the Netherlands and Finland. He also made various media appearances in these countries, wherein he appealed to all to provide donations for the quake-hit in Nepal. The Post’s Anup Ojha caught up with Rajesh Hamal at his residence in Kapurdhara to talk about his relief efforts.
