Hindu devotees all over the country today are celebrating the great festival of Mahashivaratri by worshipping Lord Shiva at various rivers, ponds and temples since early Monday. Maha Shivaratri, the night of Lord Shiva, is approaching (March 7). This year Maha Shivaratri is more auspicious as it has fallen on Monday, which is a day dedicated specially to worship Lord Shiva. Every year the premises of Pashupatinath is thronged with devotees from within and outside the country. Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) has been managing the flow of devotees and this year it is believed around 12-lakh devotees will be at Pashupatinath to offer their prayers on Maha Shivaratri.

Nepali Congress went for the second round of presidential polls for the first time in its history after candidates vying for the top post failed to garner majority votes at the NC 13th General Convention. All three candidates in the fray could not surpass the 50 per cent of the total votes cast, the threshold set as per party statute, at the election held on Sunday at the City Hall. The party was forced into a second round of voting which is taking place today. NC senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba's votes were counted at 1,564 as of 5:30 am while acting President Ram Chandra Poudel garnered 1,152 votes.

India lies to the South of the Tarai. The river Mechi flowing from North to South is the Eastern border and the river Mahakali makes up the Western border of Nepal. Nepal was once much more extensive and included the present-day Indian Kumaun and Gadhwal and all the hill country West to the river Sutlej.

Mani Shah caught small home accident which caused swelling of his right leg and he did not take it seriously until the swelling did not control. He rushed to Manmohan hospital later for X-Ray check up and the doctors suggested him to get admitted. Mani Shan then rushed to Norvic hospital where he checked up with his regular doctor Sudamshu KC who suggested him to stay under observation for 72 hours.He was admitted to hospital back in 19 August and his condition suggests his stay will lengthen as he could not stand on his right feet which has swallon and caught internal muscular infection.Nepal’s Maradona who was best known for his last minute free kick in 1993 SAF Championship final against India was Nepal’s iconic Football player in 90’s.

SAN DIEGO – It was a crazy scene as cars had to swerve to avoid hitting a woman who was meandering in and out of lanes on the I-15 freeway in City Heights early Thursday morning.The incident began at about 1:45 a.m. when the woman’s car stalled in the middle lanes of northbound I-15 near University Avenue.The woman trotted across the freeway and asked a 10News photojournalist for jumper cables as cars sped by, almost hitting the stalled vehicle.A taxi driver and motorcyclist pulled over to help. However, the woman decided to walk back across the freeway and get into her car.A bystander had to walk back onto the freeway and direct traffic as others attempted to get the driver to a safe place. China has opened the world’s longest cross-sea bridge – which stretches five miles further than the distance between Dover and Calais.The Jiaozhou Bay bridge is 26.4 miles long and links China’s eastern port city of Qingdao to the offshore island Huangdao.The road bridge, which is 110ft wide and is the longest of its kind, cost nearly £1billion to build.That structure features two bridges running side by side and is 23.87 miles long.The three-way Qingdao Haiwan bridge is 174 times longer than London’s Tower Bridge, spanning the River Thames, but cuts only 19 miles off the drive from Qingdao to Huangdao.Two separate groups of workers have been building it from different ends of the structure since 2006.After linking the two ends of the bridge on December 22, one engineer said: ‘The computer models and calculations are all very well but you can’t relax until the two sides are bolted together. -  

 Shivaratri is celebrated on the 6th night of the dark Phalgun (Feb or March) every year. On the auspicious day, devotees observe fast and keep vigil all night. Mahashivaratri marks the night when Lord Shiva performed the ′Tandava′. It is also believed that on this day Lord Shiva was married to Parvati Ma. On this day Shiva devotees observe fast and offer fruits, flowers and bel leaves on Shiva Linga. Shivaratri is also spelled as Shivratri, Shivarathri and Sivaratri. Shivaratri is an annual Hindu festival popular in both India and Nepal. Of all the many festivals in Nepal this is probably my favorite for many reasons. The primary being that there not too many tourists around as it's usually held in the second or third months of the year which is the end of winter.
