Morcha announces fresh protests

Madhesi Morcha, which has been agitating against Nepal’s new constitution over the last four months, announced fresh protest programs on Friday. At a press conference in Kathmandu, the Morcha said it will continue with its indefinite strike, peaceful demonstrations and sit-ins across the Tarai.A two-day meeting of the Morcha, chaired by Tarai Madhes Sadbhavana Party leader Mahant Thakur, had earlier concluded that the ruling parties UML-Maoist and the main opposition NC ‘were not serious to resolve the political crisis through talks’.“Further talks are futile,” said Thakur. “If the government still insists on talks, it will have to send its negotiators to Madhes.”The Morcha has vowed to prevent ministers and Members of Parliament from visiting Madhes. It has also threatened to disrupt all pro-government protests in the Tarai. The Morcha’s decision comes just a day after violent protests erupted over President Bidya Bhandari’s visit to Janaki Temple in Janakpur. Supporters of the Morcha had tried to prevent President Bhandari from visiting the temple, leading to violent clashes with police in Janakpur.According to a statement by the Morcha, Madhesi protesters will burn copies of a constitution amendment bill registered by ruling and main opposition parties in Parliament on 20 December. - See more at: http://www.tajavdo.com/videos/morcha-announces-fresh-protests/#sthash.itwJSmEY.dpuf
